Losing my religion
Sans doute la chanson la plus connu du célèbre groupe R.E.M. dont les paroles sont comme bien souvent avec REM très implicite et difficile à comprendre bien que très belles. Il m'a fallu longtemps pour cerner enfin ce texte et finalement il se trouve beaucoup plus explicite que d'autre.
D'abord le titre : Losing my religion qu'est-ce que ça veut dire? C'est un proverbe américain qui signifie perdre espoir, laisser tomber. Mais je pense qu'il faut ici le prendre aussi sous son sens littérale et pas métaphorique : "perdre sa religion".
Il faut savoir que Stipe a une sexualité ambiguë. Il n'en parle presque jamais mais on sait qu'il aime les hommes. Cette chanson est je crois destinée à l'Eglise qui rejette l'homosexualité. Il suffit de regarder le clip (censuré) pour s'en apercevoir. Comment croire en la Bible et respecter ses valeurs quand celle-ci te rejette parce que tu es homosexuel?
En plus de cela certains pensent qu'il s'agit d'une chanson de rupture et d'amour destinée à un homme qu'il a aimé.
